Iberian Settlement of Ullastret

Ullastret is an important Iberian settlement dating from the seventh century BC and is located on the mountain of Sant Andreu, about two kilometers from the village of Ullastret.

The first stable settlement, preiberian, can be dated at the end of the seventh century BC and the first Iberian settlement at 550 BC.
The Iberians built a large walled area, establishing its own culture that is reflected both in the urban structure as in funeral rituals and various social activities conducted.

Saint Peter's Church

The Ullastret village, close to the settlement that bears its name, is part of the Baix Empordà, in the Girona province. The municipality covers an area of 11 km ² and the village is 49 m above sea level.

It was built with a clearly medieval estructure, on a soft elevation. A well-preserved ramparts surrounding a small nucleus of steep, narrow streets that lead to a square where it is believed he was the top enclosure of a castle currently missing.

The Romanesque church of San Pedro de Ullastret appears on a precept of King Charles the Simple the year 899. The temple basilica with three naves and three apses is the X-XI centuries.
